Your Project & Community
Information Hub
The Berrima Quarter is a proposed adaptive reuse project to transform the now disused former Berrima Correctional Centre (opening in 1839 as the Berrima Gaol) into a lively community hub providing experiences for indoor/outdoor dining, care for the body & soul, a place to unwind, boutique accommodation and a place to gather with friends and experience a taste of a world long since lost to the ages. The Berrima Quarter will be a celebration of the heritage & history of the former Berrima Gaol site and will ensure the care and upkeep of the significant heritage elements of the site are maintained in perpetuity for generations to come.
The sale of the site in 2022 by the NSW state government heralded the next phase in the ever adapting and evolving purpose of the facility. Local Developer Blue Sox Group were the successful tenderer for the purchase of the site with the sale being completed in February 2023. Plans are now under way to reimagine the next future use in the life of the gaol – we would like to take this journey with you to ensure the project is one of a collaborative effort that the entire community can feel a part of. We are honoured by the opportunity presented to be the next custodian of the site, and to bring to the people of Berrima and the Southern Highlands a new and exciting place that can benefit the whole community whilst embracing and preserving the rich history and character of the site.
With the level of interest in the project we have developed this web site as an interactive community and stakeholder engagement forum to share all the latest information about the project and to enable you, the community to send us your feedback, ideas or any comments you have about the project. You can also sign up to our mailing list to receive project updates from time to time directly to your inbox. We look forward to hearing from you and taking this journey together.
